Malang as The City of EducationThis point is a local potency that has selling value and good competitiveness in the context of regional and national.
In the globalization era, education sector is faced by a great challenge to meet the changes as the people demand and need for a good quality of facility of education. For that fact, the efforts which would be done are to develop a vision on developing education in Malang City also collaborating with universities whether in the field of research nor development of knowledge and technology for the quality development of Malang City generally.
There are many schools, universities, non formal institutions or courses and Islamic boarding schools in Malang. Besides, the schools are supported by good facilities like student?s rooming house, book store, supermarket, plaza, clinic, and the most important one is public transportation to 25 tracks around Malang which connected to 3 regional terminals ? Arjosari (to Surabaya), Gadang (to Blitar), and Landungsari (to Jombang/Kediri). Long economic crisis has brought bad impacts to the economic development of Malang, especially for the local people. This is indicated by the increasing number of unemployed people and decreasing of economic growth. However, the crisis will go on and under solve based on people?s beliefs in God as praying continually. The effort which has been done in solving the crisis is to enlarge the employment opportunity and develop qualified and competitive employees in the working market.
Malang as The Industrial City Malang is known with traditional ? kretek in Bahasa ? cigarette industry since long time ago. Product diversification from small and medium scale industries has begun to develop after economic crisis and they need to be supported with advisory program especially in improving the product quality, technical support and investor support to fasten the economic recovery based on local economic development for future development. On the other hand, large scale industries also still need a medium for promoting widely in order to support the productivity of industry in Malang.
Malang as The Tourism City Malang has natural potency with beautiful views, fresh air and green environment also nice heritage such as old buildings from colonial era. Therefore, Malang is deserved to be a tourist destination not only for domestic tourist but also foreign tourist. Various alternatives of shopping center from the traditional to the modern one are developing in Malang and this supports Malang to develop as tourism city. In fact, fast growing of modern shopping center in Malang is impacted by growing on housing demand recently like no more unused land. So, era of local autonomy in Indonesia nowadays becomes a starting point for improving the city image, position, and participation in the context of development between other cities and other provinces in Indonesia, also other countries. This is a big challenge as well as hope which will give benefit to people in Malang.
