Geography


Geographic Position

Malang City is located about 440 - 667 under the sea surface in height and circled by number of mountains:
  • Arjuno Mountain in the north side
  • Tengger Mountain in the east side
  • Kawi Mountain in the west side
  • Kelud Mountain in the south side
The Air

Having cool and fresh air also sometimes dry, rainfall about 1.833 mm per year and air humidity about 72%  (the highest temperature is C 32,2 and the lowest is about C 24,13 on July to August).

Geology

Land soil in Malang as follows:
  • East side of Malang is upland which is very suitable for industry
  • North side of Malang is fertilized upland which is very suitable for farming area
  • East side of Malang is unfertilized upland
  • West side of Malang is large upland ? best used for education land use

Kinds of Soil

There are 4 kinds of soil in Malang:
  • Dark grey alluvial about 6,930,267 Ha.
  • Brown mediteran about 1.225.160 Ha.
  • Association of brown reddish latosol about 1.942.160 Ha.
  • Association of brown and grey humus about 1.765,160 Ha
Soil structure is relatively well-structured, but which needs to be noted more is the usage of andosol soil that is sensitive to landslide. This soil is located in Lowokwaru Sub District with the deviation 15 %.
